DMCA & Content Removal
Last updated: 26 September 2026
Musefap respects the rights of content owners and of the people who appear in content. This page explains how to ask us to remove material, whether you hold the copyright, you appear in it, or you want to report illegal content.
All requests are sent through our contact form. Choose the type of request that fits, so it reaches the right queue. We usually act on valid requests within 2 business days, and reports of illegal content first.
1. Copyright notices (DMCA)
If you own the copyright in material shown on Musefap, or are authorised to act for the owner, send a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §512) using the "Copyright (DMCA) notice" option. A valid notice must include:
- identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed, or a representative list if several works are involved;
- the exact address (URL) of each page on Musefap where the material appears, so we can find it;
- your name and contact details, including an email address;
- a statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf;
- your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name counts as an electronic signature).
The form asks for each of these. Notices missing required information may not be acted on. Knowingly misrepresenting that material infringes can make you liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. §512(f).
2. Removal requests from creators and people shown in content
If you appear in content or a profile on Musefap and want it removed, you do not need to be the copyright owner. Use the "Remove content or a profile about me" option and list the pages concerned. To prevent abuse, we may ask you to confirm your identity, for example by sending a message from the official social media or creator account linked to the profile.
3. Illegal content
Content that depicts a person under 18, or that was made or shared without the consent of anyone in it, is never allowed. Report it with the "Report illegal content" option. These reports are reviewed before all others and the content is taken down while we review it. See also our 2257 statement.
4. Counter-notices
If material was removed because of a copyright notice and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice through the contact form. It must include:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification;
- your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district in which Musefap may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.
We will forward a valid counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have started a court action, we may restore the material 10 to 14 business days after receiving the counter-notice.
5. Repeat infringement
We remove content that is the subject of repeated valid notices and may stop featuring sources that repeatedly infringe.
